Writing & Poetry Competitions & Submissions – March 2024

Spring is here and with it (finally) over 150 poetry competitions, writing submissions and opportunities open or with deadlines in March 2024.

For the first half of this month I was in autistic shutdown as the result of a very difficult personal situation that is coming to a head this week after 16 years. I am hopeful that this release will remove significant stress from my life and allow me to give time, energy and focus back to my writing, students and writing community. Please keep your fingers crossed for a good outcome.

It’s a holiday weekend in Ireland and beyond, as the whole world turns green to celebrate our national saint — Lá Fhéile Pádraig Sona Daoibh or Happy St Patrick’s Day to you all! ☘️

What better time to invite you to join me for a brand new 30-day writing challenge for National Poetry Writing Month 2024 when we’ll be taking our writing cues from the enduring tales of Irish mythology and folklore.

To the Tuatha Dé Danann, gods of the Otherworld, Ireland was the Isle of Destiny — a land of war, adventure, magic and song. Sitting at the edge of Europe and the known world, beyond the influence of the mighty Roman Empire, this tiny island nation’s rich mythical heritage survived millennia, passed down by word-of-mouth and woven into a narrative tapestry of triumph and tragedy, that still resonates today.

This April, join me for National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) and 30-days of writing prompts where we’ll delve into this treasure trove of Immortals, Shapeshifters, Warriors and Kings, and discover a place where Celtic history and folklore meet the power of the imagination in your daily writing practice. Suitable for writers of all levels, use the challenge to write a poem a day for NaPoWriMo or simply bring new focus to your writing,

Songs of a Pagan Place | Writing the Irish Myths & Legends kicks off on 31 March and is booking now. I’m really looking forward to this one and do hope you can join us!

There’s a special 20% early bird discount for email subscribers and FOUR free places available to low income and under-represented writers — click on the button below and go to the FAQs for more details. Discount rates and scholarship applications are open until 24 March 2024.

Whatever you’re up to with your writing this month — drafting, honing, editing or submitting — I wish you every luck and success. Please consider sharing a link to this post on your own blog or social media pages. Thank you!
