“To write is human, to edit is divine.”
stephen king
In WRITING SLANT | MAKING A POEM, you will clarify the ideas that lurk within your writing, and learn to tease them out in subtle, strange or surprising ways, using the tools and techniques of poetry. Over six weeks, you will develop and edit your poems from the rough nugget of an early draft into a polished gem, ready for publication.

FAQs
-
Writing Slant is not ideal for the absolute beginner.
It is best suited to someone who already has some experience with poetry and creative writing and is interested in learning how to improve their work and hone their skills with a view to publishing.
-
Some familiarity with Facebook and Facebook groups is preferred.
Participants are invited to share their work in response to the weekly exercises in a private Facebook group, and to provide feedback to one another.
Sharing and reading each other’s work is an important part of developing your critical abilities as a poet.
-
Writing Slant is a taught course with the emphasis on learning new skills and techniques and testing them on your own work.
Participants can share and provide feedback on each other’s work in the Facebook group (see above) and I will also comment on work posted to the group in the weekly live class.
This is not a traditional poetry workshop.
If you would like to receive personal feedback on a sample of your work at the end of the course, please select the option with a one-to-one mentoring session.
Alternatively, you can find details of upcoming 8-week poetry workshop courses here.

What Writers Say:
'To travel is to live.'
Hans Christian Andersen
Dearest Writer,
You are cordially invited to join The Grand Tour | 30 Days of Travel in Europe, a virtual whistle-stop jaunt, in the tradition of the great writers, thinkers and aristocratic types of the 17th & 18th century.
Think Byron, Mary and Percy Bysshe Shelley, in residence by Lake Geneva, telling ghost stories deep into the night. Think Amy March of 'Little Women' honing her artistic skills (or Laurie decadently partying up a storm) in the Tuileries Gardens of Paris.
En route you will encounter the cities, landmarks, sights and people of this magnificent continent and enjoy its literature, art, music and culture.
Join me for 30 days of writing prompts and enjoy a feast for the imagination and the senses, all to be captured in your own writing style and personal travelogue.
Every day you will receive an email with a short essay about the day’s theme and a writing tip, plus oodles of poetry, visual and musical inspiration.
This is an on-demand course and you can choose your own start date via the booking confirmation email. Once the course is activated, you'll receive the introduction email within an hour and the first prompt the following day, then daily thereafter.
NB. The Grand Tour originally ran as a live writing event in August 2020.
